Sneaker of the Day 6-25-11

These were released as David Robinson’s signature shoe in the late 80′s and early 90′s (along with the Nike Air Pressure (1989) and Nike Air Command Force(1991)) while he dominated as a top centre in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs. Nike utilized the built-in air pump technology to provide increased ankle support, as the air was actually pumped into that area of the shoe. As far as I could tell when I used to wear them, Reebok’s pumps only “filled” the shoe’s tongue with air. (Sidenote: I kind of have to wonder whether the pump technology—nike’s or reebok’s—actually really did anything. Who cares though right… it looked pretty dope..)

Props to Lafsyle
